JOHN MELVIN, b 1651 or 1652, Killoway, Fifeshire, Scotland, came to Charlestown, Mass., died August 21, 1726 in Concord, MA. Tombstone in Concord, MA, shows spelling to be “MELVEN” (His three sons Jonathan, Captain David and Eliazer and buried alongside him – all spellings of the name showing “MELVEN”) These four stones are in the 1st row of the old burial ground in the center of town, very visible from the sidewalk.He married (1) HANNAH LEWIS, 1655-1696 in Malden, Massachusetts, daughter of JOHN LEWIS and MARY BROWN. JONATHAN, b 19 May 1688 married in Concord, February 28, 1714, Sarah Hartwell b. in Concord July 28, 1694. Jonathan died in Concord February 11, 1737; she married (2) in Concord, April 15, 1741, Elisha Smith of Worcester, Mass., whither she removed.

# 6 – Nathan Melvin born June 25, 1729 in Concord, MA married Anna Foster. They removed to Ashburnham, MA (used to be called Dorchester Canada) near Worcester, MA where their 6 children are listed, all born in Ashburnham, MA. Their son, Jonathan Melvin, born July 6, 1776 (being the youngest) is not listed in the book It mentioned that Nathan went to Hollis, NH and then we know he went to Cambridge, VT – I have documentation of that. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Cambridge, VT – There is no tombstone there for his wife Anna Foster Melvin. (These Melvins had so much land in Charlestown and Concord, MA, New Hampshire, and Vermont – acres, acres and acres). Nathan was one of the pioneers of Cambridge, Lamoille County, VT

He married in Nemaha, Nebraska, PRISCILLA JANE CROTHER, b. Nemaha, Nebraska, 18 February, 1859, d. Bartlesville, Oklahoma 16 February 1947.
